In an updated projection, Islam will overtake all other religions as the most popular in the world by 2050 as a result of rising birth rates and a younger population. With over 310 million Muslims, India is going to have the greatest Muslim population, while Hinduism will continue to be the most common religion there.

Islam will continue to develop steadily in Europe, but Muslim populations will grow greatly in places like Sub-Saharan Africa and some areas of Asia. Islam and Christianity will account for two-thirds of the world’s population by the middle of the century, indicating a change in religion worldwide.
