To give live streamers an extra revenue stream, YouTube is launching a new feature called “Jewels.” With this creation, viewers will be able to purchase digital stickers to use during vertical live streams, giving content producers additional chances to make money from their work.
Fans can send animated digital presents to their favorite streamers during live sessions using the Jewels feature. When these presents are shown on screen, they give the viewer and the streamer an open experience. The content producers will receive a portion of the money made from these digital stickers, allowing them to earn Ruby for each present they receive.
One cent will be paid to the creators for each Ruby; therefore, 100 Rubies will be worth one dollar. Also, for the first three months of the feature’s launch, qualified artists will get a 50% bonus on their jewelry profits.
The feature will first only be available in the United States. In the upcoming weeks, Jewels will be made available to American creators who are part of the YouTube Partner Program. These digital gifts are only going to be available for purchase by American viewers, but during live feeds, people from all across the world will be able to watch them.
In line with the increasing trend of vertical video programming, Jewels will focus only on YouTube’s mobile app for vertical streams that are live.
